A DSS for water resources management under uncertainty by scenario analysis

چکیده
In this paper we present a scenario analysis approach to perform water system planning and management under climatic and hydrological uncertainty. A DSS with a a graphical interface allows the user a friendly data-input phase and results analysis. Different generation techniques can be used to set up and analyze a number of scenarios. Uncertainty is modeled by a scenario-tree in a multistage environment, which includes different possible configurations of inflows in a wide time-horizon. The aim is to identify trends and essential features on which to base a robust decision policy. The DSS prevent obsolescence of optimizer codes exploiting the standard input format MPS. Obtained results show that scenario analysis could be an alternative approach to stochastic optimization when no probabilistic rules can be adopted and deterministic models are inadequate to represent uncertainty. Moreover, experimentation to a real water resources system in Sardinia, Italy, shows that the DSS can be easily used by practitioners and end-users.

Water Resources Management by Simulation under Virtual Water Scenario in Agricultural Sector, Case Study: Hirmand Catchment, Iran
Due to the frequent drought periods, water consumption increase, and competition of different water-using sectors, the Hirmand catchment is in a critical water status in the Sistan region. This threat has been intensified in recent years. To cope with this problem, we must pay more attention to different types of water use such as virtual water as a water saving method. The present study calcul...

In this study, water management allocated to the agricultural sector’ was analyzed using stochastic dynamic programming under uncertainty conditions. The technical coefficients used in the study referred to the agricultural years, 2013-2014. They were obtained through the use of simple random sampling of 250 farmers in the region for crops wheat, barley, melon, watermelon and ruby grapes under ...
متن کاملIrrigation scheduling and winter wheat grain yield estimation under precipitation uncertainty – A case study in Badjgah area (Fars Province, Iran)
Addressing deficit irrigation scheduling (DIS) for strategic crop production (especially wheat) under precipitation uncertainty is a priority for irrigation scheduling in drought conditions. This research investigated the precipitation uncertainty by enacting optimistic and pessimistic scenarios for the next 20 years by considering the statistical record of climate in Badjgah area. DIS was cond...
متن کاملOptimal allocation of water resources in Khanmirza watershed using WEAP
Abstract Constraints on water resources and increasing the number and variety of water users has led to appeal of the importance of optimal water allocation. The Khanmirza watershed in Chaharmahal Va Bakhtiari Province, has experienced unsustainable development by relying on groundwater resources. As a result of this imbalance, a dramatic drop occurred in the aquifer of the Khanmiza plain. Th...
متن کاملUsing SWAT Model to Investigate the Impact of Rangeland Management Practices on Water Conservation (Case Study: Gorganroud Watershed, Golestan, Iran)
Hydrological response of a watershed is a comprehensive symbol of environmental conditions and characteristics of the basin. Vegetation is one of the main factors in water resources status, erosion, and sediment of a watershed. Rangelands of Golestan province, Iran due to the geographical location, climate, and destruction of these resources as well as drastic land use changes from forests, and...
